Anonymous asked: What is "he'll week?" I've heard about it but I don't really know.

"Hell week" is the week before/leading up to the musical or play you are performing.  It’s more common name is "Tech Week", because that is the week you start to bring in microphones, lighting, sets, costumes, orchestra, etc…the technical stuff.  People call it hell week because it usually lasts about 3-6 hours, sometimes even longer (once I had a rehearsal for 9 1/2 hours!).  It’s also Hell because it’s during a school week, so whenever you have what little freetime you are offered, it’s to eat and do homework.  It usually takes a full half-hour or longer just to do mic checks when you first get them.  Plus, the things that are stopped to run over are usually small and unimportant to just tweak little things, or to fix all the technical stuff.  So it’s just long and a lot of yelling for the most part, which is why people call it Hell.

waxingcrayon-waningmoon asked: I am girl trying out for Nicely Nicely Johnson. I am a strong alto two who sings tenor parts in some songs. What songs would you suggest for auditions? I plan on practicing Sit Down Your Rockin' The Boat because it says practice songs from Guys and Dolls. But what other songs from GD or anything else would be good? Thank you in advance!

I think Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat is a great one for your audition!  If you are looking for tenor songs I would also say Singing In The Rain is a great option! I don’t know what other song would be good if you are trying out for a male, however, coming from a 1st soprano I fear that’s something very different than what I could help you with exactly!  But for future auditions, Colors of The Wind from Pocahontas is a great audition piece for an alto, as well as All That Jazz from Chicago.  Break your leg at auditions and keep rocking the stage!
